Our Story

Why We Started Roshni

Back home in Pakistan, so many bright, hardworking children are held back only because their families cannot afford an education.

As Pakistani students who studied at university in the UK, we know how much a good education can change a life. We were fortunate to receive opportunities that these children have not, and we could not look away.

That is why we started Project Roshni. We want to stand beside these children, believe in them, and give them the same chance to chase their dreams.

In Their Words

Testimonials from our scholars.

With this opportunity I have been able to make sure that I put dedication into my hard work and achieve my dream of becoming an Aeronautical Engineer without the slightest worry of financial needs.

M. Sahban Khan

Receiving the Project Roshni scholarship in 2024 was one of the most meaningful moments of my academic journey. It gave me a strong sense of encouragement and responsibility.

Aleea Batool

More than just financial relief, this scholarship meant a lot emotionally. It reminded me that there are people and organisations like yours who believe in supporting students and investing in their potential.

SM Mustafa

There were times when my father struggled to manage household expenses, and this scholarship eased the burden by covering my academic costs, like when my sister had a knee injury, the funds that would have otherwise been spent on my education were available to help with her medical care.

Asel Syed

I’ve been able to focus more on my studies and extracurricular activities, and I’ve seen some really positive changes in my grades and overall personal growth.

How to Qualify

Selection Process

Every applicant goes through the four steps below before a scholarship is awarded.

01

Academic Record

A copy of the applicant’s academic record for the past two years. Eligible students must be in grade 8 or onwards, studying towards O Level or the Agha Khan Board.

02

Financial Background Information

Verification that the applicant comes from a low-income family, defined as a household with less than 90,000 rupees in household income. Evidence can be in the form of payslips, bank statements, or other applicable documents.

03

Two Written Answers

Question 1 (500 words): Tell us more about yourself, why you deserve this scholarship, and how it will help you achieve your goals. Please include information about your extracurricular activities and future ambitions.

Question 2 (300 words): Tell us about something that interests you and why. Your answer does not need to be related to this scholarship. It is a chance for us to learn more about you and your interests.

04

Interviews

Interviews are conducted with the students and their parents to understand their ambitions, interests, academic progress and financial circumstances. Successful applicants are then shortlisted and selected for the scholarship.
